- This series contains personal items, communications, photographs, and ephemera that document the life and work of Robert Henry Nelson in Africa. Personal items include a medicine chest and inkwell possibly utilized during the Emin Pasha Relief Expedition. Communications comprise correspondence with his father Henry Nelson as well as telegrams and letters relating to official travel. Also includes portraits and group photographs taken in Africa. There are also numerous news-clippings about his travels and ephemera from events held in Nelson's honor. Of note are materials that relate to the Emin Pasha Relief Expedition, Henry Morton Stanley (1841-1904), and William Grant Stairs (1863-1892).
