- Scope and Contents
- This series includes correspondence and photograph documentaion regarding the collections of photographs and other materials the Carters donated to the Museum of the American Indian, Heye Foundation (MAI) between 1964-1975. The majority of the correspondence is between then director of the MAI, Frederick Dockstader and the Carters. There is a small amount of correspondence between Alexander Draper and William Stiles with the Carters after Dockstader left the museum in 1975 as well as correspondence between MAI staff and the Carters in the 1980s when the photo department was processing and cataloging the Carter photographs. The photograph documentation includes notes, drawings, maps and other information about the photographs themselves which are primarily of petroglyphs in the American Southwest and Mexico. All of the documents, correspondence included, were numbered by the MAI staff in the 1980s and most of the photo documentation includes the corresponding catalog numbers for the photographs.
