Scope and Contents
The Attorneys and Legal Interest Groups series documents both NCAI's legal representation and issues involving American Indians and lawyers more generally. The Attorneys subseries consists primarily of correspondence and memoranda from NCAI's lawyers. The Legal Interest Groups subseries documents organizations around the country that provided legal services to Native communities. The Legal Services subseries deals mostly with Congressional reauthorization and funding of the Legal Services Corporation, a federal agency that provides legal services; these records derive from Suzan Shown Harjo's work at the Native American Rights Fund, and include other documents from her work there.
Collection Restrictions
Access to NMAI Archive Center collections is by appointment only, Monday - Friday, 9:30 am - 4:30 pm. Please contact the archives to make an appointment (phone: 301-238-1400, email: [email protected]).
