- Scope and Contents
- This series consists of foreign and domestic advertising for both pharmaceutical and consumer health care products. Products with the largest representation include: Bayer, California Syrup of the Figs, Fletcher's Castoria, and Phillips Milk of Magnesia. The advertisements are from general publications and trade journals for the drug and medical industry. California Syrup of the Figs was a children's laxative and the advertisements focus on the mother and child. Fletcher's Castoria contains some of the oldest advertisements, dating from 1896. The most popular Fletcher's Castoria slogan was "Children Cry for Fletcher's Castoria" which was used in advertisements from 1890 to the 1920s. Some original artwork for these advertisements can be found here.
