- Scope and Contents
- This series consists of internal memoranda for the Typograhic and Matrix Departments, correspondence, matrix inventory forms, position cards (detailing punch, cut, leverage, height, stem, and setting) and specimens and proofs for typeface developed and manufactured by the Mergenthaler Linotype Company. The type specimens in this series refer to any presentation of a certain typeface to highlight its design and/or use. The proofs or advanced proofs are primarily 6" x 9" sheets detailing the typeface name and size (e.g. height of capital and lower case letters) with examples. The date of the proof is located in the lower left hand corner. In some instances, proofs are annotated, presumably by staff in the Typography Department or were stamped "Approved" with a date and name of the staff approving. This series is arranged alphabetically.
