- Scope and Contents
- The Photoprint Series includes Sultner's early photographic work, consisting primarily of friends, ca. 1945-1951, and includes signed portraits of Tennessee Williams and Hilary Waugh. Family photo¬graphs (box 1) and presentation photographs from his 1959 Asian Tour (box 7) are also included. The Asian presentation photographs are representative of 1950s local camera club aesthetics: cute chil¬dren, people at work, and close-ups of flowers and insects. During his youth and later musical career in New York, Sultner collected autographed images of famous musicians, conductors, and singers, as well as fellow artists trying to become famous. Included in this portion of the collection are images of Leopold Stokowski, Eugene Ormandy, Jean Carlton, Vivian Reed [?], and Harl MacDonald. A card index to Asian presentation photographs is in Series 1, box 10.
