- Scope and Contents
- This series consists of published materials collected by DuMont Labs, Dr. Du Mont, or Dr. Goldsmith in the course of their life and work; occasional annotations reveal the collector. The series is divided in ten subseries: General, Atomic Energy, Business, Du Mont biographical, Du Mont boating, Electronics, Television general, Television business, Radio, and Railroads. Materials in the General subseries include two issues of National Geographic, materials on the Navy, film projection instructions, and research papers not produced by Du Mont or his employees. The Atomic Energy subseries contains three publications from 1949 1955; one is undated. The Business subseries appears to have been collected primarily by Du Mont. It contains management manuals and business publications that place Du Mont in an industry wide perspective. The two Du Mont subseries, Biographical and Boating, provide information on Du Mont and his activities. A 1951 New Yorker profile provides perhaps the best look at Du Mont's rarely glimpsed personality. Materials on boating show his success as a competitor in predicted log races and that the Hurricane III was equipped with a specially designed television. The Electronics subseries contains mostly periodicals on electronics, some from as early as 1892. The Radio subseries also consists mostly of periodicals, and represents Du Mont's early interest in radio. The Railroads subseries contains a small number of materials on railroads, mostly electric. The Television General subseries contains general publications on television; the Television business concentrates on the business activities of the industry. All materials are arranged alphabetically within their series.
