Scope and Contents
Folders include correspondence and general descriptions of Selig's teaching of history and anthropology at two independent schools, Beaver Country Day School in Boston, MA and the Holton Arms School in Bethesda, MD. At Beaver, Selig was one of six teachers in Cambridge, MA selected by the Educational Development Corporation (EDC) to pilot teach a new 10th grade Senior High School Social Studies Curriculum, focusing on Charles Darwin and the Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection and the impact of the Steam Engine on 19th Century England; otherwise, folders do not include teaching notes or curriculum materials that were discarded long before the collection was donated. The Holton Arms Alumni Magazine is included and features an article describing the Holton Arms anthropology program.
Collection Restrictions
The Ruth O. Selig papers are open for research. Access to the papers requires an appointment.
