- This subseries comprises materials relating to Ralph Solecki's work in the North American Plains, including Nebraska with archaeologist Carlyle Smith (1929-1941), and with the Bureau of American Ethnology's (BAE) River Basin Surveys from excavations in West Virginia and Pennsylvania (1948-1949) and Kansas, South Dakota, North Dakota, and Colorado (1952). It contains field notes, photographs, and other records pertaining to the excavations. Other records relating to Ralph Solecki's work on the River Basin Surveys may be found in the River Basin Surveys records (NAA.1973-13) and other related collections at the National Anthropological Archives.
