Scope and Contents
Text on front reads: "64. Afrique Occidentale (Sénégal). DAKAR. Une bonne nourrice. Collection Gautron, Dakar."
Translated postcard caption reads, "64. West Africa (Senegal) - DAKAR. - A good nanny."
Additional handwritten text on front reads, "Quand dis-tu, elles sont moches hein?"
Translated handwritten text on front reads, "What do you think, aren't they ugly huh?"
Dakar n'a rien d'intéressant.
Translated handwritten text on verso reads, "Ouakam, February 1, 1917. My dear Marcel, I arrived on the 26th at Dakar but waited to be settled in to write to you, the journey was obstructed we are at a post 7 kilometers away from Dakar where we are awaiting our departure for Cameroon. the 40th has been dissolved, the 4th who leave for Zinder, the 2nd went over to the 4th Senegalese and the 1st and 3rd, mine, leaves without fear for Cameroon. I believe I really caught the right place. I prefer above all to go to the bush in Cameroon where everything is peaceful right now. Dakar has nothing interesting and besides that everything here is expensive and everyone is asking for the bush. The women all or almost all have the pox whether they are white or black. I wish I were in a quiet post with my section. I wouldn't worry, books and a small young deck boy to lay out my peholder from time to time and we'll hold on. Hello to the friends from me, I am writing to Mr. Orivean and to Jane. Sincere and cordial handshake."
