Summit -- Walker Garden
Object Details
- General
- This wooded site on Bellevue Avenue provided Lois W. Poinier with the opportunity to design a garden that took advantage of its natural surroundings. A brick patio with small lily pond was installed by the house. Rustic paths in the woods and naturalized spring bulbs amongst the native trees were the real focal points of the site. At the top of a slope through the woods a Japanese style teahouse provided a setting for rest and meditation. At the front of the house stairs were reworked and landscaping given an overhaul. Poinier's design dates from the early 1960s, although the images document the property into the 1970s.
- Persons associated with the garden include: Lois W. Poinier (garden designer, ca. 1960s) and Longley George Walker and Eloise Johnson Walker (former owners).
