Princeton -- Pearce Garden
Object Details
- General
- This garden featured a Mid-Century Modern house built about 1968, which may have been the home of Jane Webster Pearce and which may have been designed by her son, architect John Pearce, Jr. The site lent itself to an informal plan, with an irregularly shaped patio at the back of the house leading to paths winding through the adjacent trees, naturalized daffodil plantings, and even a small water feature. The street side of the house was quite different in character due to the unbroken brick wall of the house and garage, apparently intended to provide privacy. Nevertheless, its geometric effect was softened by the use of espaliers, ground cover plants, and several trees. Images document construction as well as the mature garden over a number of years.
- Persons associated with the garden include Lois W. Poinier (garden designer) and, possibly, John Pearce, Jr. (architect) and Jane Webster Pearce (former owner).
