Summit -- Clutsam Garden
Object Details
- General
- Lois W. Poinier designed landscaping for this site over a period of years beginning in 1952. The early 1950s saw construction of a small brick patio adjacent to a screened porch, augmented by shrubs and potted plants. Enclosure of this porch around 1960 led to additional landscaping and construction of a larger, ground-level patio. Images also document the mature garden in the late 1960s. Although Poinier identified the property as being on Colt Road in Summit, town directories from the 1960s indicate that the owners were living on Warwick Road at that time.
- Person associated with the garden include: Lois W. Poinier (garden designer, ca. 1952-1960) and Henry Ogden Clutsam, Jr. and Jean Stewart Clutsam (former owners).
