Summit -- Chapman Garden
Object Details
- General
- For this project on Franklin Place Lois W. Poinier created garden spaces for both the front and side of the house. A porch renovation project in front seems to have prompted and influenced the design for that area. Four formal, edged beds were separated by brick walkways with an urn in the center. The plantings, however, were informal and with the surrounding trees, softened the overall effect. The side of the house was given a cottage style garden with an arbor and white picket fence. Pea gravel provided a base for outdoor living. Before and after images are included. By 2021 both gardens had been replaced by a lawn, English ivy, and a few shrubs.
- Persons associated with the garden include: Lois W. Poinier (garden designer, 1981-82) and Richard Chapman (former owner).
