West Orange (Llewellyn Park) -- Elmore Garden
Object Details
- General
- Located in the now gated community of Llewellyn Park, West Orange, this New Jersey property was originally the site of a caretaker's cottage and squash court when it was purchased in 1945. The property was extensively rebuilt several times. The garden was landscaped in 1967 and featured a walled garden with a year-round green planting bed in the center surrounded by a gravel walkway edged with flowers and shrubs. The front of the house was designed with a flagstone patio enclosed by a low brick wall and edged with planting beds. A gravel walkway leading from the patio was framed on either side by the front lawn. The images document construction of house and garden as well as the completed job.
- Persons associated with the garden include: Paul and Lois Scheerer (former owners, 1945-1966), Wilson S. and Barbara Elmore (former owners, 1966-1991), and Lois W. Poinier (garden designer, 1967).
