Avon -- D'Esopo Garden
Object Details
- General
- The four-acre property in northern Connecticut was a farm in the 18th century with historic outbuildings including a barn, woodshed and toolshed. Since acquiring the property circa 1985 the owner has created flower-filled garden beds, undulating borders, a formal vegetable garden centered with a teepee made from saplings, several water gardens, and a shade garden. There are more handmade teepees, trellises and an arbor at the entrance to the vegetable garden, all to add height while supporting vining morning glories, grapes or gourds. Window boxes are planted seasonally with a chosen color scheme using some of the nearly 15,000 annuals brought in each year. The owner and garden designer hangs about 100 baskets of plants every year, too. Perennials including phlox, daylilies, hostas, roses, coreopsis and primroses ground the flower beds but the strong pops of color are the annuals. Persons associated with the garden's design: Chrissie D'Esopo.
