New Canaan -- Untitled Garden
Object Details
- General
- A small garden behind a townhouse was turned into two elegant outdoor rooms by using hardscape materials to define and embellish. The rectangular dining area has bluestone pavers in a herringbone pattern and the circular living/lounging area has bluestone pavers set in a diamond pattern. Each room is bordered with brick that is also used around the fountain and for the wall at the back of the garden. A wooden fence is covered with lattice and festooned with hanging baskets of begonias. A garden shed in a back corner has more decorative lattice lined with mirrors that disguise the doors as well as visually enlarge the garden's space. Plantings are kept simple with boxwood-edged beds of pink wax begonias, tall arborvitae flanking a lattice-topped wooden gate, and a Kousa dogwood shading a bed of ferns and hosta next to the fountain. The palette of the small garden is limited to blue-gray, green, pink and white. Persons associated with the garden's design: Leslie Kammerer, landscape designer.
