- Scope and Contents
- Artwork documentation files comprise the bulk of the Spanierman Gallery records and document specific artworks handled by the Spanierman Gallery. Files may include "out" cards with names and dates; sheets of sticker labels with title of artwork, date, and artist; transparencies, slides, and photographs of artworks, and scattered notes. Also included are typed artist biographies and information sheets about the artwork, along with provenance information. Some files include minimal documentation and may only note the title of the artwork or include transparencies. Researchers may be interested to note that original letters signed by the artists are included for Joseph Cornell, 1966; Paul Cornoyer, 1907; Albert Gallatin, 1938; Daniel Garber, 1918; John Helion, 1971; Ernest Martin Hennings, 1945; Addison Thomas Millar, circa 1900; and Irving R. Wiles, 1919. A letter from James Knox's widow, as well as a brief biography written by James Knox, 1945, are also included, as well as an original label signed by Max Weber, 1912.
