Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum Offers Veterans Day Specials at Its Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center
The National Air and Space Museum will offer free parking and other discounts at its Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Virginia, Nov. 11, in honor of all veterans and active-duty military personnel. A valid military ID is required to receive the special discounts.
Free Parking
Veterans and active military will receive complimentary parking at the Udvar-Hazy Center. The regular parking fee is $15.
Airbus IMAX Theater
Special screenings of Top Gun at 4:35 p.m. and Top Gun: Maverick at 7 p.m. will be offered Nov. 11. Screenings of D-Day and Aircraft Carrier will also be offered throughout the day. Veterans and active-duty military will receive $1 off each ticket at the Airbus Theater and one free popcorn with any box office purchase.
Shake Shack Discount
The museum’s Shake Shack will offer a 20% discount on shakes for current and former military.
Additional Free Offerings
Aviation buffs can speak with authors Col. Wolfgang Samuel (USAF-Ret.) and Col. Craig Duehring, former assistant secretary of the U.S. Air Force on a variety of military-themed topics, from World War II to modern military aircraft. The authors will sign books Nov. 11 from noon to 4 p.m. Books will be available for purchase at the signing tables and in the museum’s store.
Free guided tours are given by experienced docents that share the stories behind the museum’s collection and often have firsthand experience as pilots and engineers. The tours begin at the rear of the SR-71 Blackbird and last approximately 90 minutes.
The National Air and Space Museum’s Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center is located in Chantilly, Virginia, near Washington Dulles International Airport, and is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Admission is free, but there is a $15 parking fee for vehicles entering before 4 p.m. at the Udvar-Hazy Center. The museum building on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., is located at Sixth Street and Independence Avenue S.W. and is open Thursday through Monday from 10 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. (closed Dec. 25). Admission is free, but timed-entry passes are required to visit the museum’s location in Washington.
