Darley Newman filming at Fort La Latte in Brittany, France, for her PBS series (DCN Creative)

Smithsonian Associates presents an evening with Emmy-nominated television host, writer and producer Darley Newman, Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 6:45 p.m. in the Smithsonian’s S. Dillon Ripley Center. Newman will share insider’s tips on fascinating destinations in France, which she curated while filming her popular PBS series Travels with Darley. Attendees will enjoy a sneak preview of a brand new episode devoted to Brittany, some of the production crew’s fun outtakes from the filming and a glass of French wine and light appetizers after the presentation.

While filming throughout France, Newman enlisted local experts to guide her through undiscovered neighborhoods, markets, historic sites and surprising areas of natural beauty throughout the country. Focusing on the Champagne region, northeastern France, Cote d’Azur and Brittany, she highlights the best of smaller French cities like Verdun with its World War I battlefields and Antibes with its Picasso connection, along with insider’s tips for popular Cannes and Nice. In this special evening presentation, Newman will share practical strategies for visitors ready to explore destinations well beyond Paris.

“Travels with Darley” takes viewers on U.S. and international adventures with a focus on the history, food, music and art that reflects diverse cultures and traditions. The series is on PBS, Amazon Prime and as video shorts on AOL and MSN. An engaging speaker and travel expert, Newman is also known for her adventures horseback riding the globe for the popular PBS series Equitrekking.

Ticket prices for the Smithsonian Associates’ presentation are $45 for general admission and $30 for members. For information, the public may call (202) 633-3030 or visit www.smithsonianassociates.org.
