Smithsonian Associates presents an evening that focuses on all things Oscar, from Academy Awards history and trivia to discussions of this year’s nominations and behind-the-scenes stories Monday, Feb. 26, at 6:45 p.m. in the Smithsonian’s S. Dillon Ripley Center. Washington City Paper film critic Noah Gittell leads the movie-inspired fun.

Long before Academy Awards night rolls around March 3, many people assemble their own slate of favorites in the Oscar race. There is nothing more enjoyable than comparing picks, talking about the nominated films and performers with other movie fans. Participants in this special evening can sip something festive and cast their vote for the winners in several major categories, with the most accurate predictions eligible for prizes after the awards are presented. They will also have the chance to join some screen legends (appearing courtesy of Madame Tussauds Washington) for photos on the red carpet.

Gittell has covered film and politics for publications and sites including the Atlantic, Guardian, Slate, The Economist and L.A. Review of Books. He is a regular on-camera contributor to BBC’s “Talking Movies.”

Ticket prices for the Smithsonian Associates’ presentation are $45 for general admission and $30 for Associate members. For tickets and information, the public may call (202) 633-3030 or visit www.smithsonianassociates.org.
