Hirshhorn Announces Spring 2015 Films and Programs

The Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden presents its spring films and programs beginning March 19. Events will be held at the museum’s Ring Auditorium unless otherwise noted. All are free of charge. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Jason Moran and Theaster Gates: Meet the Artists and Film: Jason Moran: Looks of a Lot (2014)

Thursday, March 19; 6 p.m. film, 7:15 p.m. discussion

The jazz pianist, composer and performance artist, recently announced as a participant in the 2015 Venice Biennale, and the visual artist discuss their collaborative performance and screen the documentary based on it.

Film: Jessica Oreck’s The Vanquishing of the Witch Baba Yaga (2014)

Thursday, March 26; 7 p.m.

The film is a phantasmagoric, adult take on the classic Slavic fairytale.

Hirshhorn: Past, Present, and Future

Thursday, April 2; 6:30 p.m.

The current and former directors discuss the legacy and future of the museum.

Julie Mehretu: Meet the Artist

The Ethiopian-born American artist’s semiabstract painting is included in the exhibition “The Divine Comedy: Heaven, Purgatory, and Hell Revisited by Contemporary African Artists” at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African Art.
