National Museum of Natural History paleontologist Scott Wing and museum specialist Skip Lyles carefully haul out a large slab of rock with fossil leaves (shown on the right, ready for the exhibit) from the Hell Creek Formation in July 2013 for display in “The Last American Dinosaurs: Discovering a Lost World” exhibition. The show opens Nov. 25 and tells the story of non-avian dinosaurs’ final years in western North America through an extraordinary diversity of fossil animals and plants from the Hell Creek Formation in North Dakota, South Dakota and Montana.
