The Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian hosts the 17th annual Native Cinema Showcase Aug. 15–20 in Santa Fe, N.M., at the New Mexico History Museum. The showcase opens with filmmaker Valerie Red-Horse Mohl’s documentary, Mankiller, celebrating the life of Wilma Mankiller, the first woman to be elected Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation.
