Members of the media are invited to tour a family festival commemorating Chuseok, Korean Thanksgiving Day, with the National Museum of Asian Art. The museum is hosting a new celebration that will be held annually to honor Korean art and culture and expand the Institution’s engagement with the Korean and Korean American community.
There will be opportunities to learn about the past and current traditions of one of the biggest holidays in South Korea. Special performances of Korean traditional dance and music, food talks by local Korean American chefs and programming from community cultural groups are also on the schedule. Visitors are welcome to try on and take photos with Korean traditional clothing, known as hanbok, view a charye table display, which is a traditional feast prepared for a family’s ancestors, and more. The full schedule is available online.
This event is co-presented by the Korean Cultural Center of Washington, D.C., and Onjium.
The Chuseok Family Festival is part of the 2023 programming marking the 100th anniversary of the National Museum of Asian Art’s founding. Learn more about the centennial celebrations. #TheNext100
