The first of three NPG Bicentennial exhibitions dealing with the Revolution, this show includes 65 paintings, associative objects and documents, and is installed in galleries with Georgian architectural detailing.
Especially noteworthy works of art include Allan Ramsay's full-length portrait of George III in his Coronation Robes; 4 paintings by Sir Joshua Reynolds, 8 paintings by Charles Willson Peale and 10 by John Singleton Copley. Loaned from several museum and private collections are outstanding examples of furniture, chandeliers, porcelain, pewter and glass. Associative items and documents include Gen. Braddock's bloodstained sash and the surrender note signed by George Washington.
