The 19th-century bandstand was given to the museum by the State of Illinois. After restoration, the wooden bandstand was installed on July 4, 1984, outside on the west side of the museum. Some 18' x 33', it was embellished with ornamental fretwork of metal and wood and painted in its original colors—cream, red, and light green. Deinstallation began January 18, 2010, and was completed in late spring.
