In celebration of its 40th Anniversary, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden is undertaking a complete renovation and reinstallation of its third-floor “outer-ring” galleries. The renovated galleries feature energy-efficient lighting; new hard floors; and restoration of the walls and ceiling to architect Gordon Bunshaft’s original, spacious design.

The debut exhibition in the galleries is At the Hub of Things: New Views of the Collection, a presentation of works from the Museum’s collection that focuses on art of the last sixty years. A metaphor for the museum itself, a hub is a place where disparate paths converge and connections are made. Each gallery of At the Hub of Things: New Views of the Collection juxtaposes the work of diverse artists, exploring themes that have recurred in art since 1950. The Hirshhorn’s sweeping, circular galleries impart a sense of continual forward momentum, yet their cyclical form challenges the notion of a single, linear progression.
