On view are 69 objects—including many important milestones of the American fiber art movement—by 61 artists to illustrate the diversity of contemporary crafts created from the mid-20th century to the present. Objects on view range in approach and aesthetics, from quilts by Nancy Crow to slip-ash baskets by Aaron Yakim, to African American quilts. Also included are large sculptures by Claire Zeisler and Kay Sekimachi from the 1970s, computer-assisted loom weavings from the 21st century, and Jon Eric Riis's pair of tapestries Pair of Prickly Pears. This exhibition is the 5th in a series that surveys the Smithsonian American Art Museum's craft collection by medium.
