This exhibition examines Muybridge's (1830-1904) career and his production of thousands of images that capture progressive movements within fractions of a second—movements imperceptible to the human eye. On view are 14 of Muybridge's uncropped, unedited working proofs, along with the final collotype prints he published in the 1887 portfolio Animal Locomotion. Also on view are Muybridge's patent models for a camera shutter, a photographic background, and an electronic timing device.
