To celebrate the centennial of Salvador Dali's birth, on view are 8 of his small oil paintings dating from 1918 to 1958 that provide a view of his work over four decades. Included is Hort del Llane, Cadaques (1918), an early impressionist painting of the landscape of Dali's homeland in Spain. His Surrealist period is represented by 5 works, including the hauntingly ambiguous figure of Au Bord de La Mer (1931); the delicate miniature of his muse, model, and wife in Portrait of Gala (1932); and the visual translation of repeated shapes in Morphological Echo (1936). In addition, 2 works from his later period—The Angel of Port Lliget (1952) and Beatrice (1958)—allude to his wife's significance as his savior.
