On view is a series of panels begun in 1991 by preeminent contemporary Egyptian artist Avedissian related to current and historical Egyptian images that are both representational and symbolic. Avedissian declares that the images—famous political figures, divas, domestic animals, and everyday objects—embody "the essence of an Egyptian way of seeing." The works in this exhibition were painted on corrugated cardboard and reinforced along the edges with fabric so that they can be carried about like scrolls and hung in a variety of arrangements.
