Sarah Chang, born 1980

Born Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
The daughter of classical musicians, Sarah Chang took up the violin as a hobby at the age of four. By the next year, she was already under the tutelage of Dorothy DeLay from New York’s Juilliard School of Music. Invited by the conductor Zubin Mehta, she debuted as a guest soloist with the New York Philharmonic at the age of eight and earned a standing ovation for the talent she displayed. Since then, Chang has performed worldwide with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Toronto Symphony, the Orchestre National de France, and dozens of other highly regarded organizations. Chang has received multiple honors and served as an Artistic Ambassador on behalf of the U.S. Department of State.
Jesse Frohman photographed Chang for a feature story in the April 1994 issue of Town & Country magazine that focused on her musician’s life as a child prodigy.
