- You might be tempted to kick your shoes off for this rhyme! This Little Pig is a classic nursery rhyme that was first published in 1728 in which a family of pigs goes to market. In the illustration, you can see all of the pigs after they have made it home from market. Since the rhyme ends here, its up to the reader to use their inferencing skills to decide what could have happened next. Making an inference is like a making a prediction, but you dont just make something up. Inferencing requires justification, or proof, which can come from information in the story and your own experiences. According to the rhyme, all of the pigs made it home, but only one got meat. What could be happening in this illustration? What could have happened after this illustration?
