- This object is a component from a payload inventory originally intended for the University of Iowa package to be flown on Vanguard 1. It is a single encapsulated electronics deck--probably a scaler. It is partly opened to repair a failed component. This was part of an inventory from the initial "Deal" payloads designed and built by the University of Iowa. This component is original and was in George Ludwig's possession since its as built in the late 1950s, with the exception of intervals when the components were used at JPL. Donated by Dr. George Ludwig in 2006.
