Interviews of Norman Bluhm conducted 1969 October 23-November 12, by Paul Cummings, for the Archives of American Art. Bluhm speaks of studying architecture with Mies van der Rohe at Armour Institute of Technology; his early interest in architecture; the quality of art education; how he started painting; living in Paris and the effect it had on him and his career; subject matter in his paintings; returning to New York; earning a living as a painter; his painting methods and materials; the way painters live; and collectors he has known.
