Smithsonian Latino Center Presents Dance on Video: “New Dance, Movement and Animation from Argentina”

The Smithsonian Latino Center will present a screening of Argentine video danza experimental dance choreography, movement and animation produced specifically for video—Sunday, April 11, at 3 p.m. in the Ring Auditorium of the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden.  This program will be followed by an onstage conversation with the Argentine Secretary of Culture Jorge Coscia; Silvina Szperling, director of the Festival de Video Danza de Buenos Aires; and Laura Urgelles, a dancer with the Washington Ballet.
 
This program is presented by the Smithsonian Latino Center and the Secretariat of Culture of the Nation of Argentina as part of the series “Argentina at the Smithsonian 2010” and is free and open to the public. This series will feature more than 20 free public programs between March and December, including tango and jazz concerts, hands-on design programs, film screenings, artists’ dialogues, spoken-word readings, family days and scholarly presentations. Upcoming events include an onstage conversation titled “A Fresh Look—U.S. Perspectives during Argentina’s Military Dictatorship (1976-1983),” which will take place May 13, at 6:30 p.m. in the Carmichael Auditorium of the National Museum of American History.
