On view are approximately 10 photographs highlighting the work of Skitch Henderson, musician, composer, bandleader, and founder and music director of The New York Pops. During his long career, Henderson worked with Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Count Basie, Leopold Stokowski, and Judy Garland. He also served as musical director of the NBC Orchestra on the Tonight Show with Steve Allen (1954-1956) and Johnny Carson (1962-1966). On January 29, 2005, he was awarded the Smithsonian's highest honor, the James Smithson Bicentennial Medal. A case explaining the medal is also on view.
