History Through Deaf Eyes
May 9, 2002 – September 22, 2002
This exhibition places the social history of deaf Americans within the broader context of American history. Objects and images collected by individuals, organizations, and schools for deaf students, and from the National Museum of American History, are used to illustrate shared experiences of family life, education, and work. Also discussed are how deaf people see themselves, communicate, use and adapt available technology, and determine their own futures.
The exhibition is divided into the following sections:

- Formation of a Community, An Oral Approach to Education
- The War and Post-War Years
- Civil Rights Recognition and Access
- Information Age and Choices
