Anne B. Williams
Deputy Director, Office of Public Affairs
Anne Williams is the deputy director of public affairs in the Office of Communications and External Affairs. She handles the day-to-day operations of the Office of Public Affairs, overseeing the team and supporting and advising the public information officer community and communications teams across the Institution.
Before joining the Office of Communications and External Affairs, she was the marketing manager at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture. She oversaw the museum’s marketing, stakeholder communications and social media functions. In addition, she led the introduction and rollout of the museum’s brand guidelines and logo refinement, implemented stakeholder and visitor communications and developed strategies for integrated campaigns for exhibitions, programs and initiatives.
Williams came to the Smithsonian from the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, where she was the director of marketing and communications. She brings strong expertise in media relations, social media and marketing, having worked in television and public relations in the private and public sectors.
Williams earned a master’s degree from American University and a bachelor’s degree from Howard University.
