March 12, 2000 – September 7, 2003

Freer Gallery of Art
Jefferson Drive and 12th Street, SW
Washington, DC

Galleries 18 & 19 Floor Plan

On view are 19 examples of sculpture--including spectacular examples of gold jewelry--created to embellish sacred spaces in southern Asia. Most of the works are from India, with a few from present-day Bangladesh and present-day Pakistan. The majority of the works are masterpieces and have been in the Freer collection for a number of years, but there are several recently acquired objects as well.
