East and West Halls

As part of the Smithsonian 150th celebration, objects displayed in the East and West Galleries from the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial Exposition were reorganized to discuss the origin and focus of the various collections held by the National Museum of American History. The East Gallery was arranged as the collections might have appeared in the U.S. National Museum in the 1890s. The West Gallery was arranged as exhibitions might have appeared in the 1950s and reflects the museum's developing collections documenting the history of technology.
