On view in the Grand Salon—renovated as a re-creation of a 19th-century collector's picture gallery—are 170 paintings from the American Art Museum (temporarily closed for renovation). Highlights include three large Thomas Moran landscape paintings—two of which date from 1872 and the third from 1893. Two of the Moran paintings are on long-term loan from the U.S. Department of the Interior. These works and others by George Catlin, George Inness, Abbot Handerson Thayer, and John Twachtman are hung salon-style, one-atop-another and side-by-side.
