Featured are some 25 portraits made during Washington's 2 terms as president (1789-1797), including the Athenaeum portraits by Gilbert Stuart, along with accompanying commentaries by his contemporaries. Other artists represented are Charles Willson Peale, Rembrandt Peale, Edward Savage, and others. This exhibition marks the 200th anniversary of the death of George Washington, the first president of the United States.
