Ceramics of the Weimar Republic, 1919-1933

June 14, 1988 – August 28, 1988

Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum
2 East 91st Street
New York, NY

1st Floor, Decorative Arts Gallery

This exhibition features approximately 100 examples of commercially made ceramics produced by German factories between the World Wars. Ceramic pieces on view include tea and coffee services, cake plates and pictures. These inexpensive objects with bright geometric patterns show the combination of the Bauhaus concept of mass production with vigorous decorative qualities.
