Photographs and objects used in the census in 1960 and 2000 are used to trace the history of the official census in the United States from 1790 to 2000 and explore such topics as population growth and census statistics. The United States Constitution mandates a census of the United States and its territories every 10 years to determine how many Representatives each state will send to Congress.
