On view are 73 monumental portraits by 51 artists selected to illustrate American portraiture in its most developed formal state. Among artists represented are George Bellows, George Caleb Bingham, John Singleton Copley, Thomas Eakins, G.P.A. Healy, Daniel Huntington, Eastman Johnson, Charles Willson Peale, Rembrandt Peale, John Singer Sargent, Gilbert Stuart, and Thomas Sully.
