Preparing to Apply Online

are catagorized as Fellowship/Other Academic Appt

General Information:

Once registered and logged in you will need to complete the requested information regarding mailing address, academic history, current university or college etc.

You should review as well as to help determine any individual or areas you are interested holding an internship or conducting research.

Files you will need to upload:

Essay (for internships)

Prepare a two-to-four page essay addressing the following points: 1) Your past and present academic history and other experiences which you feel have prepared you for an internship 2) What you hope to accomplish through an internship, and how it would relate to your academic and career goals 3) What about the Smithsonian in particular interests you and leads you to apply for an internship.


Research Proposal (for visiting students)

The full statement of your research, NOT MORE THAN 1500 WORDS. (Maximum six pages typescript, double spaced) Be sure to provide and address the following: 1) A description of the research you plan to undertake at the Smithsonian Institution. 2) The importance of the work to your own scholarly goals.

Research Proposal (for community scholars )

Please provide a description of the research you plan to undertake at the Smithsonian Institution.

Transcripts (unofficial are fine)
