Match safe in the shape of a large fly. The wings are hinged and
lift up to reveal a compartment for storing matches. Although
this match safe is unmarked, an 1882 Bradley and Hubbard salesman's
wholesale price list in
the collection of the Meriden Historical Society, Meriden, Connecticut
lists a large
fly match safe as number 1825 and
the 1883-1884 catalogue titled: Bradley & Hubbard Mfg.
Co. Illustrated Catalogue of Kerosene Fixtures, Stand Lamps, Clocks,
Call Bells, Etc. reprint by David Broughton, Sirlampsalot
Press, 2001,
shows an identical match safe with the catalogue number of 1825
on page 223.
