Match safe consists of a shield shaped back plate with two attached baskets each decorated with a foliated garland and gadrooning. The area between the baskets has a rough texture for striking the match. A loop is formed at the top by two scrolls for hanging.  Marked on back: PAT'D JAN. 28, 1868, item number 1800,  and bears a maker's oval mark. The patent document relates to the method of attaching the metal parts together using a tab and slot.

Low rectangular base has four scrolled feet. The top of the front surface has ridges for striking the match. Behind the ridges is a small compartment with a hinged lid decorated with flowers framed in an elongated X. The oval Bradley and Hubbard mark and the number 1807 are cast into the metal on the bottom. An 1882 Bradley and Hubbard salesman's wholesale price list in the collection of the Meriden Historical Society, Meriden, Connecticut lists this match safe as Fancy Box, Small.

Match safe in the shape of a large fly. The wings are hinged and lift up to reveal a compartment for storing matches. Although this match safe is unmarked, an 1882 Bradley and Hubbard salesman's wholesale price list in the collection of the Meriden Historical Society, Meriden, Connecticut lists a large fly match safe as number 1825 and the 1883-1884 catalogue titled: Bradley & Hubbard Mfg. Co. Illustrated Catalogue of Kerosene Fixtures, Stand Lamps, Clocks, Call Bells, Etc. reprint by David Broughton, Sirlampsalot Press, 2001, shows an identical match safe with the catalogue number of 1825 on page 223.

A cardboard matchbox was meant to slide over the inner block and partially open for access to the matches. The strikers on the box were accessible on the open sides of the metal holder. Cast into the bottom is the Bradley and Hubbard triangle mark and the number 2041. This number does not appear in the ca 1883 B&H salesman's price list in the collection of the Meriden Historical Society, Meriden, Connecticut indicating a ca date of 1890- 1900.

A plain round ash tray was stamped from one piece of sheet brass. The sides flare outward, ending in a rolled lip. It is supported by four small brass ball feet soldered to the bottom. The bottom is stamped with the maker's triangle and lantern mark.

The outer box is made of approx. 18 gauge sheet brass having mitered and soldered corners. The interior is lined with a five sided wooden box, also with mitered corners. The flat lid has rounded front corners and a long slip pin hinge soldered along the back edge. The lid has a decorative border consisting of a series of concentric linear squares. The center square of each is painted to make a repeating pattern of: red, green, yellow, blue. The bottom is stamped with the maker's triangle and lantern mark. A smaller version of this box (#964) is listed in the 1934 Bradley and Hubbard catalogue titled Distinctive Metalware for the Home and Office. The finish is called Van Dyke Bronze.

A plain, shallow spun brass bowl (A) rests on its rolled rim inside a heavy brass ring (B). The brass ring is attached to a device that is made to clamp around a vertical 1" diameter pipe, presumably a standing lamp. A brass ashtray (C) with one cigarette holder rests inside the outer brass bowl. The bottom of the outer brass bowl is stamped on the bottom with the Bradley and Hubbard triangle and lantern mark.

Cylindrical brass cup with rolled edge has a repeating embossed design around the top. Originally had a glass insert and a top, both missing. Plain polished brass finish. Stamped with the triangle mark of Bradley and Hubbard Mfg. Co. on the back. Similar to item number 459 in "Distinctive Metalware for the Home and Office," catalogue published by the Bradley & Hubbard Mfg. Co. in 1934, p.27.

Cylindrical brass cup with rolled edge has a repeating embossed and painted dash design around the top. Glass insert fits snuggly inside. The lid has a mushroom shaped knob and inside has a brass strap which holds a small elephant-ear sponge. The exterior has a textured brown faux leather finish. Stamped with the triangle mark of Bradley and Hubbard Mfg. Co. on the bottom. Similar to item number 458 in "Distinctive Metalware for the Home and Office," catalogue published by the Bradley & Hubbard Mfg. Co. in 1934, p.27.
