This chandelier consists of three C-shaped and scrolled bracket
arms connected to a central hub by means of patented dovetail
joints dated May 26, 1868 (lower left).
This patent was later amended on January 7, 1873 (lower
right).
The hub has three cast iron
stag heads attached between each arm. The arms hold a cast iron
font holder and a glass oil font. The arms, ceiling cup,
and font holders were patented Oct. 31, 1871 (upper
right). The font holder was patented January 31, 1871by
Nathaniel Bradley, the president of the company. Bradley's
improved font holder was cast in one piece with a threaded socket
for attaching to the arm of the fixture. The improvement alleviated
a problem with other font holders in which excess kerosene would
escape through bolt holes during the filling process.
